Subject: Announcement of the Board of Directors of the ISACA Germany Chapter

Dear All,

The Russian invasion of Ukraine last week has changed a lot - for us, for the world, and especially for the people in Ukraine, along with their relatives and friends. Many families have to spend days and nights in basements and shelters for fear of bombardments, or are fleeing towards the West.

We, the board of the ISACA Germany Chapter, strongly condemn this breach of international law and call on Russia to immediately stop all combat activities.*

Already on Monday, ISACA Global held a conference call with European Chapter Leaders to support as ISACA the humanitarian aid to Ukraine. For ISACA members in Ukraine, ISACA Global has also suspended all requirements regarding membership dues and CPEs until further notice. ISACA Kyiv Chapter President Anastasiia Konoplova is currently in Romania and thus was also able to participate in the conference call. She gave an impressive insight into the situation in Ukraine as well as the help that is needed. Unfortunately, other board members of the Kyiv Chapter could not participate due to the current situation.

We also see it as our duty as a professional organization to stand by the people in Ukraine in this situation. Therefore, we decided to donate 1,000 EUR to the
Aktionsbündnis Katastrophenhilfe in the name of the Germany Chapter. We encourage each of you to donate to a humanitarian aid organization or participate in support actions within your local communities. Many of you most certainly have already done so.

One more thing: On various Internet platforms, calls are repeatedly launched to engage in offensive cyber activities against Russian infrastructures, e.g., by joining the so-called "IT Army of Ukraine", which coordinates itself via a Telegram group. Even though these actions may seem reasonable at first glance - they contradict the ethical principles of our professional organization, constitute a criminal offense, may lead to collateral damage among the civilian population, and ultimately are highly likely to contribute to further escalation. We therefore strongly advise against engaging in this type of "cyberwarfare."

On behalf of the entire Board of Directors of the ISACA Germany Chapter

Dr. Tim Sattler
President
